A Store for Festival Materials(本文292語)
For years, West Hill School bought new decorations for every school festival. After each event, students threw away most of the signs and paper flowers because there was no place to keep them. Hana, a member of the art club, noticed the problem while cleaning a classroom. She suggested creating a store of materials that other classes could use again. Her teacher liked the idea but asked her to explain how the materials would be organized.
Hana first collected everything that was left from the spring festival. She expected to find many useful items, but some were broken and others had dates written across them. Her group kept only the materials that were still in good condition. They placed them in separate boxes and attached photographs to show what each box contained. To avoid confusion, students also had to record which class borrowed an item and when it would be returned.
The group offered the materials to three classes preparing for a summer event. Two classes used them, while the third decided to make everything new. That class needed much larger signs, so the available ones were unsuitable. Hana realized that keeping old materials would not meet every need. Nevertheless, the two classes that borrowed items spent less time making decorations and bought fewer supplies. They returned everything after the event, although one box came back a week late.
Hana now plans to open the store to all classes. Before doing so, she will add a clear return date to each borrowing form and make space for larger materials. She hopes the project will reduce waste, but she does not expect the school to stop buying new supplies completely. For her, success means using what is already available whenever it is suitable.

4(Useful decorations were being thrown away after events.)
After each event, students threw away most of the signs and paper flowers because there was no place to keep them.
- 1(The art club had stopped making decorations.):
- 2(Her teacher required every class to stop buying paper.):
- 3(The school planned to cancel its next festival.):
How did Hana’s group help students identify the contents of the boxes?
- They wrote old festival dates on every item.
- They attached photographs to the boxes.
- They placed all the materials in one large box.
- They asked each teacher to describe the items aloud.
2(They attached photographs to the boxes.)
They placed them in separate boxes and attached photographs to show what each box contained.
- 1(They wrote old festival dates on every item.):
- 3(They placed all the materials in one large box.):separate boxes
- 4(They asked each teacher to describe the items aloud.):
Why did one of the three classes make new decorations?
- It could not understand the borrowing form.
- It had already lost all the borrowed materials.
- The stored signs were not large enough for its needs.
- It wanted to use signs with old dates on them.
3(The stored signs were not large enough for its needs.)
That class needed much larger signs, so the available ones were unsuitable.
- 1(It could not understand the borrowing form.):
- 2(It had already lost all the borrowed materials.):
- 4(It wanted to use signs with old dates on them.):古い日付の看板を使いたいとは書かれていません。

- One box was returned later than expected.
- Neither class returned any materials.
- The classes returned only the photographs.
- Every box came back broken.
1(One box was returned later than expected.)
They returned everything after the event, although one box came back a week late.
- 2(Neither class returned any materials.):everything
- 3(The classes returned only the photographs.):
- 4(Every box came back broken.):
How does Hana view the project’s goal?

- The school should never purchase new supplies again.
- Only the art club should be allowed to borrow materials.
- Existing materials should be reused when they meet a class’s needs.
4(Existing materials should be reused when they meet a class’s needs.)
For her, success means using what is already available whenever it is suitable.
- 1(Every class should use the same decorations at every event.):
- 2(The school should never purchase new supplies again.):
- 3(Only the art club should be allowed to borrow materials.):
